Oh my goodness! I guess no news is good news?

Ok, so here goes,
I'm realizing that maybe, just MAYBE, folks want to see "What's New?"  While that's a perfectly lovely ballad, I guess I'll just say what's new these days.  I am the first to admit, I never update this page, because life seems to go buy so fast that I get behind on EVERYTHING!  So, what's new right this second, will be old news by the time I remember to mention it to anyone.
It's been two years.......TWO years, since I last wrote on this page.  Maybe I'm the only one that will read it, but if not, I send my best wishes and hope you're well.
A lot has happened in the past two years.  I had another child, we moved to a new house. I have more white hairs on my head that I strategically pull out.  My older child is no longer a toddler and is a sweet kid.  We got a new president, and well, all you have to do is read the real news for an update on that.
This week I'm at DaMimmo's in Baltimore on Friday, May 12 as the resident cocktail pianist and singer.  Yes, that's just ME!!!!  Then Sat., May 13, I'm at Eddie V's in Tysons Corner with the Paul White Quintet.
Then next week, I'll be at DaMimmo's on Fri, Eddie V's on Sat, and THEN on SUNDAY, May 21 I'll have my own spot at Wine in the Woods in Columbia, MD.  You should come because the band will be really, really good!  Check my dates and hope to see you there.
I'll try to not wait two years till I say hello again!  I guess that's the nice thing about friends, you can take a break, but then when you reunite it's like time never passed!

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas!

Hi everyone.  It has been a couple of years since I have written on this page.  I imagine people don't really read it for that reason.  Sorry!
I have a couple of December shows coming up so please do come out and support live music.
And wherever you are, I hope you're having a super week!

Sara Jones in Concert!

Hi everyone - Hope all is well.  Here's some info about my next concert!  Come out if you can!  We'll have fun!
NEXT TUESDAY, Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m. I will be presenting a concert at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis benefitting BUILD UU Philippines, an organization striving to build safe, affordable housing for female university students in remote areas of the Philippines.  This cause is particularly important to me because of my own background--I was born in Thailand and adopted at a young age.  Since I came to the United States, I have been afforded many opportunities to get a grade-A education and I'm donating my time in order to give back.  Please consider attending to help raise funds for young women who need a safe place to learn, grow, and become leaders of tomorrow in their country.
I'll be there with pianist David Kane, bassist Paul Langosch, drummer Frank Russo and guest vibraphonist Blake Cramer, so it will be a toe-tapping night of music for sure.  There are no tickets required, but a suggested donation of $15 may be collected at the door.  My CD "Daydream a Little" with Brazilian Jazz group Trio da Paz will also be available after the concert!

Hi Everyone!  I'll be singing at the Seeds of Hope 2011 Charity Event TOMORROW Sat. June 11 from 5:30 - 7 p.m. with pianist Tim Young. Tickets are $50 for adults and $35 for youths and it benefits the Samaritan Women's Home, which will provide housing for homeless female veterans and victims of sexual abuse. If you have the time and want to support a very worthy cause, the event lasts all afternoon from 3 - 7 p.m.

Thanks as well to everyone for coming out and supporting us this week.  I saw lots of friends at my gigs at Bistrot Lepic and Mandarin Oriental, and I want you to know how much I really do appreciate you choosing to spend your free time with me.

LOTS of Shows this SUMMER with Sara!

Hi everyone -
I'm pretty bad at updating the news page, so I'm going to try and come here more often!  Please do stop by!
I've been blessed with lots of gigs lately, so I'm hoping I'll see YOU lots and lots!  It is seriously one of the coolest things to see friends and family come to our performances.  Last week at my gig at Jalepeno's, some colleagues and a high school friend came out, and it was really wonderful to see them.  Music is such a great way to connect with people, and I hope when you come, you'll have a great time and enjoy yourself.
THIS THURS, June 2, I'm at Jalepenos in Annapolis from 8:30 - 10:30 p.m with the Tom Lagana group.  Seriously, the food is so good here that I live for this gig.  If you get the Carne Asada, it will melt in your mouth and don't get me started on the Ropa Vieja.
THIS SATURDAY June 4, I'll be at the Harbor Court Hotel in Baltimore from 8 - midnight.  I'd really love to get more people out to this's really a cool place to go.  There's NO cover, Valet parking is free with validation at the bar, and I'm there with a great trio - David Kane on piano and Tommy Cecil on Bass.  So come get some fancy booze, sit in a fancy chair, and enjoy some great live jazz.
There's more to come, but I won't say it all at once.  I'll update this a lot more often now...and always, stop by the "Contact" page and drop me an e-mail.  I'd love to hear from you!
All my best,

Sara's Invited to be a Quarterfinalist in the 16th Annual American Traditions Vocal Competition!

Hey guys -

Just wanted to share some good news! As I was groggily starting my day on this cold morning, I got a call from Savannah, and....

I heard that I was selected to be a Quarterfinalist in the 16th Annual American Traditions Competition, in Savannah, Georgia. So, that means on my next few gigs, you'll hear some of the selections I'll be performing in April of 2009 at the event. Hope to see you soon and check my schedule for gigs in your neck of the woods. Stay well and healthy!!

From the official press release:

SAVANNAH, Georgia – The 16th annual American Traditions Competition returns to the historic Lucas Theatre for the Arts for its final round during the 2009 Savannah Music Festival. The illustrious four-day vocal showcase hosts 28 singers from around the United States between April 1 and 4. Judges narrowed the field of talent to these gifted vocalists after receiving the highest number of applicants in the last five years.

A panel of three voice experts spent several weeks independently listening to and grading all 99 applicants. Nancy Mercer Gerard, niece of Johnny Mercer, remarks, "It was not an easy job as there were so many skilled and engaging singers."

Jazz, the Japanese, and Swingin' on the Shore!

Hi everyone,

Hope all is well in this beautiful first week of September. As promised, I'm trying to update the news page a little more often!

This summer was busy with lots of gigs and meeting up with friends--old and new! This past June, I was featured in a Japanese documentary about jazz legend Billie Holiday. I spent the day with a crew from NHK, Japan's public television network, and we filmed parts of rehearsals, performances and an interview. Parts of the shoot are featured in the documentary--it was an honor to be asked and included in the piece!

In addition to my regular gigs, I'm really excited about an upcoming performance in my old hometown of Easton, MD. On Saturday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m., I'll be performing with the FAB Trio at Coffee East. Join us! Tickets are available at

Sara featured on newly released CD Tales of Time!

Sara is featured on the newly released Tales of Time, the debut album of the Young Brothers. Founded by brothers Tim (piano) and Alphonso, Jr. (drums) Young, the band´s repertoire is deeply rooted in the traditional jazz genre, but prides itself in its fresh and innovative approach to standards. Critics agree, calling it a "delightful" album "tastefully infused with new originals, resulting in one nice package of musical delights." ( Sara was honored to be included in the project, and greatly enjoyed working with these gifted musicians.
